There's just something really magical about the East Lancs Railway. Growing up in Bury it was definitely something I took for granted. I have lived in the South for ten years, yet myself and my family have probably been on the railway more times than when I used to live there. The reason being (apart from being older and more appreciative of what your home town has to offer), it's a treat! There are some really special events and the staff are really friendly, knowledgeable and just great at what they do. We went this Christmas with our little girl (sadly after the festive event) and the amount of effort that goes into making a simple journey truly memorable is exceptional. The atmosphere is calm, relaxed and nostalgic. Great experience for all ages!

Regular visitor to the ELR, certainly the best heritage rail experience in the North West. My train mad three year old adores coming here and we regularly travel between the stations, the Santa Special's are extremely popular as are the regular services throughout the year.

Took the kids on the Santa Special and the amount of detail and effort put in my staff and volunteers was fantastic. Very magical.

The staff are very friendly and professional and very polite. The Railway operates for most of the year. Now is the time to visit the railway especially if you have children who like Santa Claus, as he will be at the railway during selected dates in December.

Fascinating place. They work hard to keet a flow of "new" locos' and old favourites. A real mix of passenger, goods and mixed traffic trains, both steam and diesel. There is no museum as such on site (although the transport museum is very close by) as the station at Bury Bolton St. tries to , and succeeds in giving a flavour of days gone by
